How to Make Chai (the proper way)

INTRODUCTION:

Knowing how to make chai comes in very handy when you have house guest or you are looking for a warm beverage.  Unlike coffee, chai is a blend of both spicy and sweet.  These easy-to-follow instructions will have you brewing in no time.  Remember, it can be served hot or cold.  Just add ice for cold chai.

INGREDIENTS:

4 cups water
4 teaspoons finely grated ginger
1/3 cup (30 g) tea leaves
3 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon Garam Masala
Sugar

QTY: 4 cups of chai

DIRECTIONS:

1.) Boil water over medium heat in a saucepan.

2.) Reduce heat to low and stir in the tea.

3.) Bring water to a boil again and add milk

4.) Add milk and Garam Masala and continue to stir contents.

5.) Keep on medium heat until the contents boil up quickly.
(Please note this is a signal that the chai is ready – when it happens, it happens fast so stay close).

6.) Remove pan from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.

7.) Use a strainer and pour into a coffee mug.

8.) Add sugar (usually 1-2 teaspoons will suffice depending on how sweet you want it.  If you want it sweeter, add more.)

BY THE WAY:

* Garam Masala can be purchased at any ethnic grocery stores or online.  It can also be purchased as part of the Good Indian Girl Kit.

* Add more or less milk and sugar depending on how sweet you like it.
